I was planning on getting an iPhone 3G S this past Friday but instead was disappointed to find that I was not eligible in the slightest for an upgrade, the reason I was so disappointed about this was that it was o2's own site that told me that my renewal date had passed. In the end I wasn't all that bothered about not being able to upgrade as I was only finding out after I had got up at 6.30am and then stood in a line for 2 hours.
I was all too aware of the #o2fail movement on Twitter but couldn't remember the exact details of upgrading to the 3G back in 2008 and thought maybe I had continued my 2G iPhone contract over to the 3G explaining the renewal date on o2's website, wrong! I contacted o2's customer support after being told this in the store and they were pretty useless saying I wasn't entitled for an upgrade.
It seems to me ludicrous that you have through this much aggro in an attempt to give someone money. The assistant in the o2 shop happily told me that I could cancel my current contract for £200 and then pay a further £180 for the phone if I wanted to. No thanks, friend, I'll just wait till my contract expires in January and come crawling back for more pain from your cheery selves. Because lets face it I want still want an iPhone 3G S and o2 is the only place I'm going to get one.
Thanks (to everyone but o2)
Adam
